While we are talking about indigenous people from North and South America, Colombia, Canada, Brazil and other countries, we in the Netherlands have also lived an indigenous life and we are also connected to these people and just like them we are also indigenous, we are also indigenous just like these mentioned countries that we have mentioned because we also had a life in nature and we belong to the Dutch Indians and we should not be forgotten like how our dune life was, how we lived in that time, what life was like in the time when people lived in sod huts and how, just like the dune people who lived on farms, how the whole of the Netherlands grew its potatoes and vegetables in nature, we are the forgotten people and should be put back on the map but also certainly recognized, you can read more about this on this page.
Why are we the forgotten people who have lived with and in nature?
Little to nothing is said about our indigenous traditions anymore. Throughout the Netherlands, we lived in harmony with nature. We had potato fields to grow potatoes, but these were taken away by the government and the money and power of the people who managed everything. We also earned money from the potato fields, but also by growing vegetables. We even had cows back then, and we drank their milk, so it's a very old story. Cows also thrived in the Netherlands, as did all the other animals we had, such as sheep and chickens. All the animals roamed freely, and we slaughtered them ourselves in a stress-free way. A bullet would kill them instantly. Now they have to be transported in stressful conditions, crammed together, and it's become a business model. In the past, we took good care of everything, compared to now. I also find farms everywhere, even in the dunes. What remains after World War II can be seen in aerial photographs and the photo alongside, which I'm sharing with you. Since canals were dug in the dunes, groundwater has also been flowing, it was a bad sign for the potatoes, so it became increasingly difficult to make money, and we were driven out of our natural areas. It happened everywhere where power and money were used, the worse it was for us as indigenous people who lived freely in nature. That's why I see many problems because we no longer connected with ourselves and nature, and therefore also with ourselves.
